PLACENTIA, BAY AREA AND LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA- American Professional Services (APS-Hoods), a Placentia and Bay Area hood cleaning company, has released a checklist that will assist restaurant owners and managers in ensuring that the hood cleaning company they select does an adequate job each time their hood system is cleaned.

Massoud Farazandeh, CEO of the Bay Area commercial hood cleaning company, said the following should be considered:

  • Did the hood cleaning company clean the fan, ducts and hood to the bare metal? Restaurants that fall behind on cleaning cycles cannot expect the system to be cleaned to bare metal in a single cleaning. Such expectations pertain only to restaurants that abide by the hood cleaner’s recommended cleaning cycle.
  • How often should the system be cleaned? Farazandeh, a Bay Area hood installation specialist, recommends that no restaurant go longer than six months between cleanings, and they could require increased frequency, depending on the type of cooking process used and volume of food cooked.
  • Are the belts changed every six months to ensure the system continues to function at optimum levels?
  • Have the bearings been greased each time the belts were changed?
  • Are there enough access panels? Panels should be placed at every bend and no more than 12 feet apart in straight areas.
  • What type of fan is in the system? Utility fans need access panels so both sides of the blades can be cleaned. Up-blast fans should have hinges so the fan can be tilted for cleaning.
  • Does the hood cleaning company provide a current cleaning sticker? If the box for inaccessible areas is checked, it is important to find out why, said Farazandeh, a Bay Area hood installation expert.
  • Is the company available after hours and in the event of an emergency?
  • Does the professional cleaning company maintain current workers’ compensation and liability insurance?
  • Is the company certified and trained to clean kitchen hood systems?

Keeping a kitchen hood system clean and in optimum functioning condition helps ensure safety in the kitchen, keeps the work environment comfortable by exhausting out smoke and fumes and helps eliminate the buildup of grease, which can act as fuel in the event of a fire, said Farazandeh, a Bay Area, CA hood sale professional.
